Bret.
What next? I led the PDA meeting last night in Jon Williams absence and there was huge support for a "grassroots network" website for Santa Barbara. We need to name this website something so that it is clear as to its purpose, and the calendar must allow for all the political activist groups (which Funds for SB's calendar doesn't), as well as Peace, Health Care, Social Justice organizations to post their events. I explained to the group that the SBPC had some money for this project but we needed to raise approximately $600. more to pay someone to set the site up to serve our needs.
Nick Beeson was there and he suggested that we need an actual place in town where people could come to access information from all the Progressive Groups, but we all agreed this would take some $$$$
We need to move forward on a definite plan to get a website accomplished, whoever had the idea first. What do you want to do?
Thanks,
Lois
I have created a preliminary website (or URL) that we can use, called http://www.gretwork.com/, a portmanteau for GRassroots nETWORK. Right now, a prototype for the calendar is on The People's Coalition (TPC) website: http://www.thepeoplescoalitioin.org/GVP However, this calendar is actually functional. Any group can create a Google Calendar for their group, register their group on TPC's calendar, and it will be automatically updated whenever the group updates their Google Calendar. Further, each person can use the calendar to view the events of just the groups that she/he are interested in. It will take some money to use the new, or a different, URL, so, yes, we need donations.
I also have ideas for a community bulletin board system where the "community" is defined by each person viewing the board. Further, each person will be able to vote on each posting, making popular postings more prominent--participatory democracy in action--perhaps visible right on the homepage.
So, we need to discuss the plans, raise funds, and create/use the website!
