The People’s Guide to the GVP
This document gives details on how to use the GVP group registry. For general information about what the GVP is and what it does, see the GVP Theory. The sections and functionality present in the GVP group registry depends on the mode: register, view, or edit.
- Group Calendar: This section holds the group calendar and request event cosponsor functionality.
- Group Registry: This section allows creating, viewing, or editing of group details.
To enter the GVP Group Registry, you must log in. Use the Member Registration page if you need an account. (For information on how to find groups, create your coalition, and display your coalition calendar, see the GVP Main Page.)
Group Calendar
In view mode, this section simply displays the group’s calendar.
However, in edit mode, there is also a Request Event Cosponsors button below the calendar, to the left. A Request Event Cosponsors (info) subsection appears when this button is clicked, listing a large but limited number of future group events by event title, in chronological order.
Group Registry
This section contains informational fields about the group. In view mode, none of the private fields are visible. More information about each fields can be found by moving the mouse over the (info) text to the right of each field.
In register and edit modes, you can set the official location of the group in the Full Address field and type the Enter key (or click somewhere else on the webpage for the address to be reflected on the map). The map will go to that location if Google can figure it out. Otherwise, just drag the group location icon (see below) to the location of your group. Note that you can use the map controls on the left hand side of the map to zoom in (+) and out (-) (which greatly helps to move the icon large distances).

Also in register and edit modes, you can select (or de-select) the checkboxes of all of the subjects that your group is (or isn’t) interested in. This helps people that are interested in certain subjects to find appropriate groups.
Depending on the mode, appropriate buttons are displayed at the bottom of this webpage. In register mode, only a Register Group button is displayed; in view mode, only a Close Window button; and in edit mode, an Edit Group and a Delete Group button (which may be changed to just a Close Window button if the password for the group is updated). There is no undo. (Though, you can always store important information yourself and either edit the group again or create a new one.)
